How to use this online egg timer

Select your preferred doneness above — soft, medium, or hard — and press Start. The countdown runs right in your browser tab, so you can switch to another app without losing track of the time. When the eggs are done, a three-beep alert plays automatically.

Egg boiling times at a glance

All times below assume eggs are placed into already-boiling water and then immediately timed. Room-temperature eggs take slightly less time than cold-from-the-fridge eggs.

  • Soft-boiled (4 min): Firm white, fully runny yolk — ideal for toast soldiers or ramen.
  • Medium / jammy (7 min): Set white, yolk that's cooked but still golden and slightly soft in the centre — great for salads and grain bowls.
  • Hard-boiled (12 min): Fully set white and yolk, easy to peel, perfect for egg sandwiches and meal prep.

Tips for perfect boiled eggs every time

  • Bring the water to a full rolling boil before lowering the eggs.
  • Use a spoon or spider strainer — never drop eggs from height, or they'll crack.
  • As soon as the timer goes off, transfer eggs directly to an ice-water bath to stop the cooking. Even a minute of residual heat changes the yolk texture.
  • For the easiest peeling, use eggs that are a few days old rather than fresh-laid eggs.
FAQ

Egg Timer Questions

How long do I boil eggs for soft, medium, and hard?

Soft-boiled: 4–5 minutes. Medium/jammy: 6–7 minutes. Hard-boiled: 11–13 minutes. All times from when the egg hits already-boiling water.

Does the egg timer work on my phone?

Yes — it runs in your mobile browser with no install needed. The remaining time also shows in your browser tab title as you switch between apps.

Will the timer make a sound when time is up?

Yes. A three-beep alert plays when the countdown reaches zero. You can also download a calendar reminder as a backup.

Can I boil eggs from frozen or straight from the fridge?

Yes, though cold eggs need about 30–60 seconds extra. The ice-bath step is especially important for cold-start eggs since the shells can be more brittle.
